Chinchilla Hose Company firefighters were dispatched to a brush fire at mile marker 195 N I-81 at 23:59 on Monday.  Car 2 (Chief 2B Grierson) arrived on scene in the area at 00:08 with nothing showing in the area.  On the investigation Car 2 located a garage along the side of I-81 with melted siding.  Upon further investigation Car 2 located smoldering debris and brush along a fence line along the highway and the residence.
Car 2 worked to extinguish the smoldering brush and debris with the homeowners hose and was assisted a short time later by Brush 2.  The cause of the fire was determined to be carelessly discarded fireworks by a homeowner at the Hilltop Lane residence.  Residents of the house had attempted to extinguisher the fire themselves and had retreated to their house for the night…unbeknownst to them that there was still active fire in the brush along their house.
The garage was check for fire extension and none was found.  Damaged was confided to the garage siding, a plow and several other household items.  The matter was turned over to the South Abington Police.  Command was terminated at 00:46.
