Tree Fires

Station 28 and 36 were dispatched to RT 632 at 20:41 for the reported tree fire in the woods. Chief 36 arrived on scene and notified the Lackawanna County Communication Center that the fire was actually in the Chinchilla Hose Company coverage area.

At 20:49 Station 2 was dispatched, with Engine 2, Brush 2 and Ambulance 2-9 on the box. Chief 2B (Grierson) arrived on scene at 20:55 and assumed command. Brush 28 was kept on the assignment and arrived on scene at 21:00, with Brush 2 and Engine 2 soon after. Police Units 2-2 and 1-1 also assisted with traffic and scene safety.

Crews quickly went to work on the suspicious tree fires in the woods. Two trees and the surrounding area in the woods were well involved. One tree was dropped to properly extinguish it and the ground fire was knocked down. The fire was under control at 21:29 with all companies completing mop up and returning to service at 21:51.

Storm Rips Area

Lightning, heavy rain and strong gusty winds ripped through the Abington’s and surrounding areas for the 2nd time in three nights.  The storms hit the area both Sunday and Tuesday nights around 19:00.  Fire Rescue crews were dispatched on numerous calls both nights for, trees and wires down and in some cases burning.  No injuries were reported as a result of the storms.

Average – 8 Members Per Job
CHC Ambulance 2-9 was dispatched on 75 EMS jobs in May in addition to dispatches and responses on most Fire Department boxes.
