On Tuesday evening December 29, 2009 Chinchilla Hose Company (Station 2) along with Dickson City Ladder 23 were dispatched to the 600 block of Layton Road in South Abington Township for the reported structure fire at approximately 1852 hours.  Chief 2 (Percival) arrived on scene assuming the Layton Road Command reporting a working fire and a vehicle in the garage with no occupants accounted for.  Command 2 requested a 2nd alarm at approximately 1856 hours.  Engine 2 arrived on scene and went to work performing a primary search and stretching the initial attack line.  While attempting to make the second floor they encountered heavy fire conditions.  Ladder 23 arrived and went to work opening up the 2nd floor and roof.  The Engine 2 crew had the bulk of the fire knocked down with in 20 minutes.  All searches proved negative and the residents arrived at the scene later during the incident.  As the 2nd alarm companies arrived crews were rotated for overhaul.  Units started being released to cover the Abington Area.  All units were cleared around 2200 hours.  The cause has not been determined and is awaiting the State Police Fire Marshals Investigation.
